Inheritance: Some ultra-rich pick charity over kids

About 32% of high and ultra-high net worth Americans say it isn't important to leave inheritances for their children, according to a report released Monday by U.S. Trust, Bank of America's private wealth management division. Among baby boomers, that percentage rises to about 45%.

The top reason respondents cited for not leaving money to their children was that "each generation should earn its own wealth."

One in four respondents said they would rather give that inheritance to charity, while more than one in four said they worked hard for their money and plan to enjoy it themselves. A small slice, 7%, said they don't think they will have any money left to leave for future generations.

Tycoon gives $1 inheritance to each of his children

Shipping tycoon Yeo Chong Lin is giving only S$1 (RM2.40) inheritence to each of his four children.

The 77-year-old Singaporean did not leave a single cent to his girlfriend of six years.

Instead, Yeo left his entire S$45 million fortune to his seven siblings.

He told Lianhe Wanbao that he had severed ties with his children.

Yeo, the main shareholders of Yeo Holdings, lost a divorce suit in which he was order to pay S$24 million to his ex-wife Nancy Tay last year.

Under the law, a person who is qualified to certify shall not certify a true copy of a photocopy document without sighting the original document as it is a serious offence if the original surfaced later and was found to be different from that certified.

Some testators wouldn't like to have family members to know where their Will is kept. When the testator passed away, his family will not able to locate the original Will. Although some of them will have a photocopy of Will for the family, but if the photocopy is not accepted as evidence, then the estate has to be handled through the application of a letter of administration which delays the process considerably.
